Housing the Gene of Happiness

"I'm born happy. No one can snatch away this indigenous gift from me."
Say these words aloud again and again and each time you say associate yourself more and more with the eternal feeling of happiness and realize that Yes!! you are authorized to live happy just like all other happy fellas.

Well!!! it's easy to say but hard to do. But then nothing exists on this earth which is beyond your potential. Just as you breathe sometimes deliberately while often unintentionally. The same way start taking a daily dose of Happiness and house it in the deepest of you. So that you can transfer it to your next generations too. Develop a happy gene, treasure it and pass it to your generation. You will be eventually called as HAPPY PEOPLE, the most sought after tag which most of the people take years, sometimes even the whole of their life to earn. Some are titled Happy while some die Unhappy.

You must have seen people who are happy always irrespective of the circumstances. Damn! the only thing which makes you feel up and down. They dont bother about situations- whether they are endowed with prosperity or poverty, whether they are materially successful or not, whether they have a family or not, whether they are being loved or not, whether they are healthy or ailing. They just know that they are born happy.

These iffy circumstances just cant take them off from their Happy path. Have you ever given a thought ? What is the secret to their Happiness??

Everyone chases happiness in some forms- some see happiness in money, some find it in attaining their goal, some find it in satisfying the family needs, some feel it in their better halves.
Stop chasing happiness. Rather carry this Happy gene within you and let Happiness chase you.

I'm no sage to preach you fellas. You all are more insightful than me. But sometimes we get carried away by damn! circumstances and we forget that we are born happy. Here's a little of my ponder-pool which I realized and now I can say I'm dominated by Happy gene. ( May be someday I too get suppressed by the nasty unhappy gene but I'm pretty sure I'll turn back a few pages and kick out the unhappy gene.)

Here goes my two cents.

Each one of us ride the MOOD-swing. Sometimes too high in the air of exuberance and sometimes too low in the dust of melancholy. Dear! hold this swing and enjoy smoothly. Don't let it run butterflies in your stomach. Ride gracefully, dominate this MOOD-swing and you decide where you have to take the swing. Don't allow the swing to take you wherever it wishes. Once you get hold of the Mood-swing, nothing in this world can drive you unhappy.

Now there must be a question arising HOW?? So here comes the answer.

Stop attaching yourself personally with everything going around you. Don't take it as, ' why life ditches me everytime?' Oh! cummon! Open your eyes dear! There was someone who faced the same problem before you. There was someone who lost the job, there was someone who was dumped by his love, there was someone who was slapped by his manager, there was someone who was assaulted by the in-laws, there was someone who flunked the exam, there was someone who was denied the business deal, there was someone who was wronged, there was someone who was looted, there was someone who met an accident, there was someone who lost his parents, there was someone who suffered the lethal disease. ( I had already mentioned here how people get carried away by unhappy gene for some trivial issues.)

You are not Adam or Eve, the first-born on this earth left to face all the troubles. Billions, trillions have lived before you, faced the challenges before you and emerged as winners before you. You are facing nothing new. It's often a relief to know someone who is caught up in the same situation as we are in. So take a deep breath dear! Everyone is offered his share of problems and so are you. You have to deal with them either with smile on your lips or tears in your eyes. When it is destined you have to pass through the agony- trench then why not to walk happily?? Choice is yours my dear!!!

Nothing on this earth is permanent. So stop brooding over your current Unhappy status. It is sure the coin will flip, the spring will come , the birds will chirrup, and you will win. So enjoy the life at every stage. Your failures will not be accounted if you welcome them with a smile. House the sporty spirit in your soul. Play with each of the problem and I'm sure you will court the ball. Let the circumstances hit you, hit you hard. But you dont kneel. Keep moving, keep going and the nasty circumstance will succumb.

Trust me fellas! You are born to win!!! You are born happy!!! You are precious my dear!!!!

Wednesday

I'm a Girl

I'm a girl
It's my fault

Not allowed to walk
Not allowed to talk

Not permitted to laugh
Not permitted to dance

All in all live in four walls
All in all breathe in coals.

Did I asked to make me a girl?
Did I asked to break me whirl?

No offences
Yet punishments
All for me
Just for me
For I'm a girl.

No hanging out
No playing out
No disco
No movie
Cos I'm a girl.

They say I'm soft
They say I'm tender
I can get pricked
I can get hitched
For I'm a girl.

I can't speak my heart
Cos silence is my mark
I can't live free
Cos someone's eye is on me

Born slave
Lived in grave
Die in shame
Buried in flame

This is me
A girl
And that's my fault
Why I'm a girl???

Bare Truth

For men may come
And men may go
But I go on forever.

January 12, 2013

He laid down to sleep for a while and kept sleeping forever. The air turned moist with tears. Loud cries and wailing for the irrecoverable loss made me more and more deaf. Was it all real or was all just an ostentatious display of sorrow and grief??? Here goes my heart wrenching experience of how people lament over such a loss to feign themselves as wearing the shoes of sympathy.

Eerie silence persisted throughout the porch leading to the room where he laid still just still.
Men in white standing in groups discussing about the timeline of the dead.

M1- He was such a nice person. God calls for good people soon.
M2- He was in so much pain. May his soul rest in peace.

Women lamenting, shedding tears, showing compassion, kind gestures overall. Behind the veil went long gossips, tearing apart the crumbled pages of dead's story.

W1- He had earned enough to descend to his next generation.
W2- Ahha!!! Rich people are often killed by greed.
W1- But he suffered from cancer.
W2- Three years the lump was seized in the body. Had he spend a few bucks then he would be alive today.
W1- But the reports didn't traced the lump.
W2- Ohh.

On the couch sat his son weeping helplessly. Staring at the bed where he took his last breath tears deluged his eyes. I went near him but was so shocked that a lump chocked my throat to utter anything. I just rushed to the other room to get hold of myself.

In the next room, sat the now-widow lady wrapped in a thin shawl absorbed in the convulsive flood.
Some few sat beside her consoling her. Then barged her young sister into the room and dropped herself onto her saying " Now what will happen?? Who will call her in the morning?? Oh my sister, poor sister."
I wondered if a person taken aback by shock can utter such piercy words to worsen the wound more.
Why did she need to say such striking words? Can't she just soothe the widow with a warm hand???

I pulled away the younger sister to pacify the air. Took her to other room. She continued crying for another ten minutes at her full pitch. All other women were just pondering over the family's history.
A few more minutes passed in the eerie silence.
"Arey! you are here in the town?", asked the a-few-minutes-before-wailing lady.
I was silent the whole time until she asked me. "Yes, at home."

"You have completed engineering, right?", popped in another grieving lady.
"Ya"
"Which discipline? Which college?" came the questions in speed.
"Mumma, gather yourself. Let's go", I blatantly said turning back to the ladies.

Disgusting! they are here to take an account of my life. Dare not see me as some material to be cockeyed soon.

Came the time when the body was carried for cremation. All the present mourning masses made the last pranam to the heavenly soul and I came back home.

What if I die tomorrow? Will they cry for me? Will they console my family too? Will they ask my brother what stream he is going to opt? Will I too become a closed chapter? Will I too live in just memories of a few??

Bewildered with thoughts all around, I tried to get back to normalcy. However his face kept hanging before me until I closed my eyes.

THE NEXT DAY

All the family members have come by now. Seemed more of a get-together. In the temple after doing with the rituals, sat everyone in the hall. New faces were lingering and introduction round geared in.

"I'm your so and so. Do visit us. You will have quality time with this family", said almost everyone whosoever I went near to.
How hard I wanted to escape such a moment but it trapped me.
The display of wealth and prosperity again seemed on a go. Exchange of clothes and gifts (yes gifts as a token of his remembrance) with a lavish lunch set the entire family soon into the mood of chatter.

Are they here to enjoy or to lament or just to mark their presence. I hated the way tradition keeps people going for such a ceremony. The person is dead. Yet food is being organised. Yet gifts are being distributed. Yet chatter are initiated.

I can't take it this way. I asked mumma," Why this way?"
"Long sought tradition".
"Or perhaps merry-making of liberation of one more soul".

I was totally traumatized.

How happily people were satiating their stomach when one person was less to eat. How? Why?
I was feeling giddy.

A Few Days Later

The grieving family is back to path. Usual routine. Cooking, eating, sleeping, shopping, business, everything back as if nothing had happened.
Sometimes they feel his absence when there is no one to cheer for team India, when there is no one to scold, when there is no one to ask for tea. But since it's life. Life goes on and on. People move ahead.

But I still feel stucked at Jan. 12. Haven't I moved on? Or I'm escaping the truth? Or I'm afraid of such an end in disguise?

P.S. This post is directly coming from the deep of my heart. I perhaps don't know whether it reveals my immature face or hides my sorrow. It's just I wrote in a flow. I personally don't intend to hurt anyone or their feelings or mock at our culture and tradition. But still at the back of my mind I don't like it this way. I can't take it this way.

Tuesday

THE BLUE BALLOON

Beneath the giant wheel,
Stood a man in green.
Holding the bright balloons upright,
He blew the piper-pipe.

Red,Yellow,Green and Blue,
Danced to the music in crew.
Tied with the strings tight,
They glided to left to right.

Merry-making was the Balloon family,
Until a child came to the man-slender.
Choosing the blue balloon,
He drived the balloons into gloom.

Red was the mother,
Yellow was the father.
Green was the brother,
Of the Balloon Blue.

Green twirled his string,
Around the neck of blue.
Red caressed his head,
And Yellow stared at the child below.

The man disentangled the entangled
Strings of the Green and the Blue.
Moving aside the Red and Yellow,
He pulled out the string of Blue.

The Blue swayed hard,
Against the movement of man's hand.
The wind was still,
The balloons were raging.

Red ,Yellow and Green looked dull,
The man dusted for the gloss.
It was the dust of departure,
Reigning the Balloon family.

Thursday

BLOW TO GLOW

I'm lost
You are lost
We both are lost
Lost in the lies
Lost in the faith
Where are we lost??

Lost all the hopes
Lost all the faiths
Lost all the joys
What makes us lost??

Lost the soul
Lost the glow
I lost in some
You lost in another
Unaware of each other
We got lost in our own.

I keep getting ahead,
You never noticed 'm almost dead.
I see my dreams are gone,
You only reply with a yawn.
I get pushed back,
You never noticed the slack.
I get pushed down,
You never noticed my frown.
I fall down and crawl,
You keep walking tall.
I cried in pain,
You didn't notice in vain.

What to tell you my GOD??
I lost you in a plot.

Survive and thrive!!
This was what you told me
I swear I followed it
That's why once I shined
Once I bloomed
Once I flourished
But today I suffocate
Oh!! My LORD!!
Where are you??

Return me my smile,
Which is long viled.
Return me my life,
Just for a while.
Promise me some cheers,
And I promise you a beer.
Promise me a blue,
To which I promise to glue.

It's been so long
Longing for a beacon
I got lost in the dark
Thinking of the stars

Amidst the dark
Rose my sun
Oh!! LORD!! You got it done
A ray of hope
Found the way to my gulf.

You returned my smile,
That had been viled.
You returned my flight,
That had a plight.
You are the one
To whom I bow
You made me glow
Amidst the blow
Thank You LORD
For all I owe.

Monday

LOST IN THE WHITE

The road to woods
Led to the moon
Stayed a Blonde
Looking for a mound

The white spread
Coverting all the white
Might the silver gleam

Sighted him bleak
Lost was his life
In the cloth of white
Eyes grew red
But none befriended

Gazing at the white disk
Up in the mist
Laid his Miss
Against his wish

Nymph cried
Seeing him grey
Blew hard the winds
Rained heavily the clouds
The havoc played well

Lost in her
Sitting over the mound
Was oblivious to the roar

Saw then her
Amidst the roaring water
Paying no heed to the screech
Paced towards the white gleam
Sleekly embraced her
Now and forever

Keeping the promise
She graced him white
Bracing him tight
Got lost in the woods
Tinging white with the woods.
